WHAT IS MONTESSORI?

(Printable version)

Montessori is an approach to education with the fundamental belief that a child learns best within a social environment that supports each individual’s unique development.

Classes are based on three-year age groupings.  Thus younger students observe and internalize skills learned from older students.  Older students exercise leadership skills while continuing to progress.

Montessori education is based on the following:

  1. Whole Child Approach
Activities provide intellectual stimulation and promote the development of social skills, emotional growth and physical coordination.
  1. Prepared Environment
Classrooms provide freedom within limits and a positive climate for learning.
  1. Montessori Materials
Multi-sensory, sequential and self-correcting materials facilitate the learning of abstract ideas.
  1. Certified Teachers
Our Early Childhood and Elementary I teachers receive their certification from the Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center.
